LEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH MUSIC VIDEOS
In my English class I asked students. What type of school or education would you like to have? What types of lessons and tasks do you like? These are some of their answers.
“Talking English in class, watching videos, listening to English songs, reading magazines or books in English and having an English pen-friend who you can talk to” (Pilar)
“I think we can learn more English watching movies in English or listening to music” (Ana)
“To my mind, listening to music and watching series or TV programmes is better and easier. You practise structures and get a better accent” (Yolimar)
“I think that a good way to improve your English is watching videos in Youtube about things and stuff that you like”(Carlota)
To celebrate Saint Cecilia, music patroness in Spain, we have picked up some songs from youtube. Have a look at these suggestions and see if your students like them.
1. PRACTISING PRONUNCIATION, ENTONATION, GRAMMAR(how to make questions, conditional sentences…)
“If I showed you my flaws, … would you still love me the same?
Tell me, tell me do you love me?”
Locked Away R. City
2. DESCRIBING A SCENE.
Play the video with the sound off. Students are asked to describe what they see and explain what is happening.
Then we can turn the volume up. Afterwards, you can also play the song with different images! It makes a difference, doesn’t it?

Students are give some sentences which are part of a story. They work in groups trying to imagine the story behind these lines:
-So when we found we could not make sense …
-Then you change your number
-Now and then I think of when we were together
They will surely come up with interesting stories of their own. Once we have listened to their stories, we can show them the story behind our sentences.

STARTING UP A DEBATE.
In the past some teachers used to be very strict, and sometimes education was used to control people’s minds. Have a look at this video! What are your views on the topic? What do you think about discipline at school?
